Welcome to the first edition of drupal.org team weekly notes - regular updates on what is happening at the drupal.org development land, what we've been working on and how you can participate and help us make drupal.org a better place. (Actually these updates will be posted once per 2 weeks, but bi-weekly notes sounds not so cool!)
Drupal 7 upgrade
As you might have heard, our biggest and most important project right now is Drupal.org upgrade to Drupal 7. On the week of April 23 we've had an upgrade planning sprint, sponsored by Drupal Association.
It was a very productive week of discussions, planning and coding (check out our daily reports). Started at the sprint, upgrade now continues as expected in virtual space - we work in issue queues and IRC, hold regular Skype scrum calls. We'll work like this for the next month or two and then hopefully host one more all-hands sprint in Portland for any contributors who can make it.
We are happy to see new volunteers joining us along the way. Just this week Your source announced that they will be organizing code sprint for Project* module port to Drupal 7 (thanks skilip for reaching out to us on IRC).
There is still a lot to be done. If you or your company would also like to help us - contact technical project manager Joel 'Senpai' Farris in IRC or come to our regular Drupal.org office hours (Monday 18:00-19:00 UTC #drupal-infrastructure)
We desire to launch the new D7 site before the upcoming DrupalCon Munich, and if all goes well and we continue to see an influx of interested helpers, we'll make that goal!
However, drupal.org upgrade is not the only thing we are working on..
What else?
During past weeks usage stats changed to not use google charts (thanks to grendzy, webchick, attiks, drumm), html5_user_geolocation data migrated to geolocation module, multiple images now configured for project nodes and Bakery updated on *.drupal.org sites (thanks drumm). Oh and huge images don’t break layout on drupal.org anymore!
twardnw and sheldonkreger been doing a lot of work on association.drupal.org and DrupalCon websites, such as membership badges on Association website, recurring payments to make life of Association members easier. This feature already works for EUR and testing is in process of USD recurring payments through Authorize.net. Issues with using Doubleclick to provide sponsor info to DrupalCon sites have been resolved and currently we are working out a set of requirements for all Drupalcon sites to streamline our development process.
And this is not all yet! There are also initiatives in progress by our awesome volunteers.
Community initiatives
I've been helping lisarex with Case studies initiative last week. We still have a lot of pages to migrate, but shiny new case studies section will be ready soon.
lisarex also works on redesign for events page on groups.drupal.org. Design needs to be finalized next week so we could move on to implementation. If you have an opinion on how this page should look, now is the best time to tell us!
jhodgdon and LoMo soon going to bring new Book content type and book listings to drupal.org. It should make adding and managing books (printed books or e-books) much easier.
Community documentation might get new navigation in future, right now jhodgdon is looking for someone to help move this forward.
Lastly, issue page redesign is underway. Hopefully we will get much more usable issue queue soon!
