Friday, 4 October was the first First Friday Sprint - also known as the D8 Contrib Sprint Initiative (CSI) as announced at the opening ceremony of the Prague Con.
After a process of communityinput and a final choice by Dries, there is an official Drupal 8 logo! Dries unveiled the design during his keynote at DrupalCon Prague earlier today.
Time to have some fun! As discussed in a previous blog post, as part of a set of launch activities being planned to help provide a marketing splash for Drupal 8 when it launches, we’re developing a brand identity for the release. Today we’re excited to show some concepts and ask for feedback.

The response to the call for designers for the Drupal 8 logo has been outstanding! More than 20 designers or firms have expressed interest and we’re still going through portfolios and conducting interviews. That part of the process should be complete by early next week. As mentioned in the design brief, the Drupal 8 branding will be an important element of the marketing of Drupal 8 and the goal is to have it complete in time for DrupalCon Prague.
Update: Part of our charter at the Drupal Association is promoting Drupal and the great community behind the project. As such, we are developing a launch plan along with the Branding and Marketing Committee for Drupal 8 to help make sure there is a marketing splash when it is released. That includes media coverage, social media buzz, release parties, sales enablement and other elements that will give Drupal 8 the attention it richly deserves.

We did it! The Drupal community raised $5k to bring Vincenzo Rubano to DrupalCon Portland. This is an amazing accomplishment that demonstrates that crowdsourcing to support the Drupal community can work very well. Although it's been an idea that's been brewing for a while, we've been doing all that we could to bring Vincenzo to a DrupalCon.
