DrupalCon Boston raised USD 110,000 for the Drupal community.

Funding Drupal.org Redesign Sprints

Dries Buytaert wished to open the floor for discussion about funding Drupal.org upgrade/redesign sprints up to 15,000 Euro. VOTE: Does the Drupal Association want to provide Dries Buytaert, in his capacity as chair overseeing the budget, access to 15,000 EUR on top of the money raised from the community to help facilitate the drupal.org upgrade/redesign code sprints that have or will happen? (Not all money might be required.) (VOTE ACCEPTED7 yes, 0 no, 0 abstain).

Drupalcon Europe 2009

The Drupal Association was given the choice between two proposals for Drupalcon Europe (attached): Maastricht and Paris. Jacob was given control of the floor, which was open for discussion. The general discussion boiled down to the following: MAASTRICHT Pros -- Only planning for 600 but can grow to 1,600 -- Venue appears to be better equipped to handle a large crowd -- A very realistic budget -- DrupalTown in Szeged was an awesome concept and a great time for all -- Town is less expensive than Paris Cons -- Only planning for 600 -- Possibly too close to FrOSCon that people would have to choose -- Getting to Maastricht is looking to be as difficult as Szeged; which may attribute to low turnout PARIS Pros -- Lots of WiFi around the city -- Easy access from the U.K and Germany -- Easy transport around -- It's a destination, people wanting to come to France for travel reasons could increase attendance. -- Because it's a destination it could attract business to Drupal Cons -- Paris is expensive -- Proposal doesn't contain enough specific information to build confidence in their ability to execute -- Biggest room only holds 500, not big enough for a keynote The floor was then open for a "straw poll" during which all permanent members could vote their feelings. The result was very close: 7 for Paris, 6 for Maastricht. Vote Does the board agree to hold the 2009 European conference in Paris? (VOTE ACCEPTED 5 yes, 2 no, 0 abstain). Finally, a communication strategy about Drupalcon was discussed. It was agreed to notify the Maastricht team first, then tell the Paris team that evening while Dries and Gerhard were there for the Drupal.org Redesign sprint, and announce the following day on Drupal.org, Twitter, and so on.
