I finally got around to getting myself a place to blog about Drupal Association stuff.

So like most other members, I recently returned from Drupalcon Barcelona.

For those who weren't at the panel talk there, what we've accomplished in the past year basically boils down to the following things:

  • Boot-strapping: Things like filing paperwork, getting the website setup, nailing down the format of our Board meetings, hiring an accountant, researching into various legal issues (including getting a lawyer), setting us up to take donations, trying to figure out what we can/can't, should/shoudn't do as an Association, and so on. These are all super important tasks, though unfortunately they're not very high-visibility, so it's difficult to find something exciting enough to blog about sometimes.
  • Fixing drupal.org infrastructure issues: This was universally seen as the #1 priority for the community, so it is here we focused financial resources, manpower, and so on. Gerhard in particular worked very closely with the OSL team to try and nail down performance issues and keep the site humming.
  • Providing support to important initiatives: For example, the Drupal Association helped with financial support and resources to FrOSCon, Drupalcon Barcelona, and also donated a large sum of money to OSL, drupal.org's hosting providers.

My hope is that in the next year, with the time-consuming boot-strapping issues behind us, we can start to support the community more in other areas.
