The Drupal.org working groups have been busy as usual! Here are the latest updates on what the Drupal.org Software, Infrastructure, and Content working groups were doing during the past two months.

Drupal.Org Software Working Group

As part of their mission to provide the tools and processes for the community to continuously improve Drupal.org, the Drupal.org Software Working Group is hard at work appointing Leadership teams, to provide clarity in decision making on Drupal.org.

In January they appointed the first team -- Developer Tools team -- to work with the community to address gaps and needs when it comes to developer tools. Currently, they’re focusing on putting together a team for Community Tools. Communication tools team and Translation tools team are in plans.

Drupal.Org Infrastructure Working Group

The Drupal.Org Infrastructure Working Group is focused on ensuring the stability of Drupal.org websites and supporting infrastructure. As part of this, the working group has decided to start using CDN (content delivery network) for parts of the Drupal.org. They have already settled on a provider and testing will begin shortly, first on association.drupal.org and then other sites.

To improve monitoring of the website performance and uptime, DIWG has set up a Pingdom account to monitor the site performance. The Working Group is also actively working on a plan for a better Drupal.org development environments, both hosted and local (‘Drupal.org in a box’), as well as a full staging environment.

Lastly, to make it easier for community members to interact with the Infrastructure team clean up of the infrastructure issue queue is underway.

Drupal.Org Content Working Group

At the start of this year, the Drupal Association hired a content writer to assist the Drupal.Org Content Working Group with generating content for Drupal.org. The Association additionally plans to hire a content strategist to help the Drupal.Org Content Working Group strategically determine what content and landing pages need to be emphasized.

In addition, the Drupal.Org Content Working constructed a site building landing page that acts as a hub for content that addresses every portion of the site building process. They are also working on improving several policies around Drupal.org, including Terms of Service and Privacy policy. Drafts of both will be published for community review soon.

Lastly, the Drupal.Org Content Working Group announced plans to improve Drupal.org on the Drupal Association blog, outlining plans to perform user research and a content audit. The first step of this plan, issuing a Request for Quote for the user research, is in effect as of March 19.
