As promised, here is the recorded webinar on SEO for the Drupal.org redesign.

A couple of weeks ago we prepared to do a live webinar and take questions from the community about Drupal.org SEO. Unfortunately, I was not familiar with all the features of our webinar software. The result was that no attendees were able to attend the webinar, and the webinar was recorded in a proprietary format. Fortunately, Forest Mars was able to decode it and so I've now made it available.

If you have questions about Drupal.org SEO feel free to ask them in the comments below. The folks from Volacci will gather them up in January and respond when they are back from holiday.

Thanks for posting this video! I think the slides just by themselves would be very helpful.

Oh, and by the way, Drupal is a great content management system.

I think we need to worry about getting the homepage of Drupal.org to rank first for top keywords, rather than the features page or any other page for that matter. It is currently the best ranking page for most of these types of keywords anyway.

The example in this video for linking with the keyword, Content Management System, is not an example of implementing good SEO for the community. Someone has already made a link to the features page... That link should have been a link to the homepage.

We are currently listing behind Joomla for the content management system query, with the homepage listing in that position. The Drupal about page lists next, which is listing 180th, compared to Joomla's which lists 22nd for the query. In any case, your example should have pointed to the about page if not the homepage.

Those trying to help the community SEO efforts, please disregard the example in this video and link to the homepage instead of the features page suggested. Promoting the features page with that keyword is a losing battle. We don't need to be competing against ourselves for the #1 spot either.
