Importance of Membership

Today we announced a fundraising program designed to build out new improvements on drupal.org. I'd like to take a few steps back and tell you why that I think a membership program is important to the Association and to the Drupal community. You can choose to become a member of number of organizations and an even larger number of organizations will accept your donation. So why should you become a member of the Drupal Association, forking over your hard earned cash?

Portland here we come

The Drupal Association is proud to announce that we have chosen Portland, Oregon to open a permanent office. A few minutes ago I signed on the dotted line for an office in Portland, Oregon located near Portland State University (PSU) at the PSU Business Accelerator. The move to Portland brings us closer to many other OSS projects and the OSU Open Source Labs.

The Drupal Association one year later

This coming November will mark the first year that the Drupal Community has had full-time employees dedicated to supporting them and the project. A year ago the Drupal Association (then known as DrupalCon Inc.) hired Neil Kent and Megan Sanicki, two employees dedicated to DrupalCon and helping to grow the support programs we offer the community. Since then we have expanded our staff, offered new programs, and continued to build a strong Association to support the ever growing Drupal community.

Town Hall Meeting September 28th, 2011

It's that time again for another Town Hall meeting. Since the last town hall meeting DrupalCon London was held, DrupalCon Denver and DrupalCon Munich were announced, and we are working on a number of new initiatives. At our Town Hall meetings we open our doors to connect with the community to hear from you, listen to your ideas and suggestions, and answer any questions that you may have.

Come join us!

Increased Efficiencies at the Drupal Association

The past few months have been a time of great change at the Drupal Association headquarters. We've been focusing on the future of the organization, the community and the project by adjusting our governance model. We also understood that there has been some confusion about how Drupal VZW (the Belgian nonprofit that holds our membership) and DrupalCon, Inc. (the U.S. nonprofit that produces DrupalCons) interacted, and we've been working to remedy that confusion and also increase efficiencies between the two organizations.

A mistweet but a great DrupalCon

Yesterday a tweet was sent out on @drupalcon that was unprofessional and not the right tone for our community or our conference. The tweet was one of many tweets that was scheduled weeks ago and slipped past an internal review process. The tweet was discovered within a short time, deleted, and replaced with something that was more appropriate.

We apologize that the tone of this tweet did not fit our conference.

The tweet in question was:

Increasing our Transparency v2.0: DrupalCon

Following up on last week's post regarding increasing DrupalCon's transparency, I would like to outline the evolution of the management of DrupalCon to help everyone understand how we got to our current position and where we are headed.

Increasing our transparency: DrupalCon

Over the past year I have been working with the Drupal Association to build an organization that not only supports and fosters the growth of the Drupal community but also one that the Drupal community can be proud. In this post I would like to address the transparency around the Drupal community’s largest financial event; DrupalCon. In just a few short years this event has grown from a small handful of people to a million dollar event and we have expanded our reach by beginning to work outside of the United States and Europe.

Town Hall Meeting July 22, 2011

It has been a while since our last town hall meeting. Since the last town hall meeting we have announced new membership benefits, a new program we call Bizconnect, launched the Drupal Community Cultivation Grants, purchased new hardware for drupal.org, and a laundry list of work on drupal.org.

The Association and DrupalCon are growing

I am very excited to announce that the Drupal Association and DrupalCon have hired two great folks to work on our worldwide team; Paul Suway and Isabell Schulz. These two amazing folks will help our growing team continue to refine the DrupalCon and Drupal Association member experience and put in the solid foundation for a strong Association. The Drupal project is growing and we're building out a great team to support this amazing community!

Please help me welcome Paul to the Drupal Association and Isabell to the DrupalCon team!
